In
developed countries, senior citizens are treated with care and concern giving cognizance
to their special life circumstances. Almost all developed countries issue a social
security ID card that entitles the cardholder to avail of benefits at shops, products
and service centers exclusively meant for senior citizens. These also include certain
important senior citizen services such as emergency assistance.
India
tried to replicate the model these days and various NGOs issue senior citizen
ID cards for Indian nationals. However, due to various complexities involved
& delay in implementation process, many people especially senior citizens could
not get their hands on ID cards. Unavailability of centers for this purpose and
lack of required assistance to senior people is on one of the reasons. Therefore,
NGOs to issue senior citizens ID cards as NGOs are widely available even in PAN
India.
Reaching Every Corner of India
NGOs
are establishing their centers at every corner of India; thus, issuing senior
citizen ID cards by NGOs is a good practice. Seniors often asked to verify their
seniority using some ID proof and NGOs issued senior citizen ID cards can help
them outstandingly. The process of issuing senior citizen ID cards is being
operated by Government as well but reaching every corner isn’t possible for the
officials. This problem is effectively handled by the NGOs in the respective
district.
